"During the first week of June, a selection of nude drawings by the artist Blanca Domínguez, almost all of them female figures, were exhibited on the sixth floor of the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid. These drawings resulted from sessions in which the artist sketched models in various poses. The presentation of the drawings within a single space defined by a simple frame (the medium-sized ones grouped in pairs and the small ones in rows of four), as was done in the past with painting sketches and family photographs or portraits, is probably due to the artist's interest in variations of the same model. Hence, she has aptly divided her drawings into series, of which Ink Bodies and Pastel Bodies are shown in this exhibition. These are drawings executed with speed and confidence, without dwelling on anecdotal detail or naturalism. Unfinished bodies, they reveal a complete life experience and aesthetic, intentionally distorted bodies that depart from both academic naturalism and the prevailing stereotypes used to represent the nude human body in consumer culture." Bodies transformed into ink stains, shadows that acquire volume and weight and become bodies in the Ink Bodies series; bodies outlined by firm, fine and thick lines, drawn with pastel in the other series, some of which fortunately remind us of drawings by Rodin and Schiele."
